The meeting opened at noon with a prayer.
Reports:
- Laaker provided financials from December 2015.
Old Business:
- Reminder about chaplain’s website and password.
New Business:
- Chaplains are needed to give opening prayer for upcoming Officer of the Year banquets.
March 30: Doering – Crimestoppers at Embassy Suites in La Vista
April 21: McNeil – Omaha Police Foundation at Scott Conference Center
- Shield-a-Badge − Several churches requested prayer cards after the last mailing of letters. Zimmerman is working on updating Shield-a-Badge prayer cards for the Douglas County Sheriff. She doesn’t have the file to print additional cards, so will recreate the artwork.
- Uniform options continue to be discussed. Heavy jackets are nice to have. Several chaplains have gone online to purchase their own. Bray will contact the First Responders to ask if they are willing to donate to help with the cost. Doering stated that he will match their donation.
- Review of assembly assignments − McNeil has been added to Southwest Precinct.
- Review of roster − Newland and Scrabeck have resigned as chaplains due to other commitments. Badge numbers for new chaplains need to be added to Chaplains Only website. Zimmerman will send to Laaker.
- Executive Board Open Position − Dinneen will send out email to inform chaplains of the opportunity to serve.
- If meeting attendance continues to be down on Thursdays, another survey will be sent out to determine if there is a better day to meet.
- CPR Training – Ponec reported that he has a friend that conducts CPR training who is willing to volunteer her time to train chaplains. Certificates cost $4, and the Chaplain Corps can reimburse that cost.
- Ponec is ready to do a ride along. Doering will assist in setting it up.
- Duty times were discussed and assigned.

Marsh gave a blessing for the lunch that was served.
The meeting convened at 11:57 a.m.
Reports:
– Laaker reviewed the September 2014 financial report.
Old Business:
– Dinneen gave a reminder to the website for roster information.
New Business:
– Metro training will be held on Oct. 16 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Project Harmony. Scholarships are available through the OPD Chaplains Fund. Lt. Jones reviewed the topics to be presented. Training will also be held in Grand Island in October.
– The OPD Volunteer Luncheon will be held on November 20 at 11:30 a.m. at Westside Community Center. Those attending should wear their chaplain uniform for a group picture.
– Let Dinneen know if you would like your assembly assignment to be changed.
– Capt. Bang thanked chaplains for their commitment to serve and for their presence at events. Dinneen reiterated appreciation.
– Burt asked about proper procedures when another chaplain is requested. If a priest is requested, Baumert is listed by the Archdiocese to be available 24/7.
– A headlight is out on the chaplain car. It will be fixed.
– Thanks to Doering for cleaning out the chaplain car. Please be courteous and clean out the car before turning it over to the next chaplain.

The meeting convened at 11:50 a.m. with a prayer led by Brooks.
Reports:
– Laaker reviewed the July 2014 financial report.
– The Shield-a-Badge letter will be sent out today to initial group of churches.
Old Business:
– Chaplain Websites – There will be some revamping of the websites. Photos have been updated on the public chaplain website.
– Chaplain logs should be filled out and submitted to Capt. Bang. If emailed, send to Capt. Bang and Loreen Bray, Volunteer Coordinator.
– There are approximately 50 thermoses still available for sale.
New Business:
– Metro training will be held on Oct. 16 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Project Harmony. Dinneen will email flyer. The charge is $25. Scholarships are available through the OPD Chaplains Fund.
– The chaplain phone needs a case. It may be in the car; but if not found, a new one will be purchased.

– Laaker reviewed the May 2014 financial report
Old Business:
– Shield-a-Badge letter will initially be sent to 25-30 churches.
– Photos – Photos of the new chaplains and the chaplains that are still missing photos will be added to the website.
– Handouts noting carwash locations and precinct contact info for ride-alongs were distributed.
– Thermoses are still available for sale.
New Business:
– New chaplain David Scrabeck was introduced, and Deputy Chief Davis presented him with his badge.
– Dineen reminded of upcoming educational opportunities: State on Sept. 4 and Metro training on Oct. 16. Online disaster training is also available. The possibility of posting upcoming events on the Chaplains Only website and having a Chaplain Facebook page was discussed.
– Thank you to Ward Doering for volunteering to clean the unused items from the chaplain car.

– OPD Chaplain Websites — The three URLs will be renewed for another year.
– Shield-a-Badge — There will be 25-30 churches chosen for initial mailing of letters.
New Business:
– Dinneen discussed the upcoming events for National Police Week May 11-17 and how to bless/thank OPD officers.
May 10 – Law Ride
May 13 – Douglas County Appreciation 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
May 15 – Memorial Service
Capt. Bang will check with Police Union to see if they would like help when they deliver lunch bags to Omaha Police Dept. staff in the fall.
– State Chaplain Training will be held in Grand Island on Sept. 4 and in the Metro area on Oct. 16. Scholarships are available.
– Report on International Nutrition coverage. Discussed procedures/protocol.
– Report on hospital visits in February. Visits were appreciated by the Hamill and Tomsu families.

New Business:
– Jeremy Cole shared a story about a positive ride along experience in Northeast.
– Katrina Palan shared a positive story about a Peer Support Contact.
– Ward Doering reviewed :How to handle and use the OPD Radio. He also reminded all chaplains to “Keep the phone with you at all times. When it rings, answer it!!”
– Chaplains wishing to do a ride along with “Able One” can call Lt. Mike Davis at 402-444-3648 to schedule.
